Meet Denise Forrest
— a proven leader

Denise Forrest, candidate for state representative

When elected, I will hit the ground running to fight for the residents of the 44th by bringing people together to make our community an even better place to raise a family.

Denise Forrest

Denise Forrest was born in Detroit and raised in Oak Park, Michigan. As a former school teacher at Huron Valley Schools, a mom to three daughters, and a Milford resident for almost 40 years, Denise understands the value of an educated workforce. Her passion for great public schools motivated her to run for public office in 2018, and continues to fuel her desire for a government accountable to the people, not special interests.

Denise is a proud member of the Michigan Education Association and the National Education Association, and a past president of the Huron Valley Education Association (HVEA) from 2014-2018. Denise understands the importance of civil leadership that represents the people and not personal agendas. She worked hard to improve the working conditions and compensation of the 540 teachers, social workers, speech pathologists, and psychologists of Huron Valley Schools, during a time of incredible political scrutiny.

Denise was instrumental in the successful passage of the 2020 Huron Valley School Bond/Building Site and Sinking Fund. She partnered with community leaders from across the political spectrum to bring about an over 70% approval of funding to improve education in schools.

A current elected member of the Huron Valley Schools, Denise serves as Board Secretary, Committee Chair of Teaching, Learning, and Technology, and a Committee Member of the Finance Committee.

My Vision for District 44

  • Education
    • All children deserve a quality public education. It’s not only the right thing to do, but is an investment in our state’s civic and economic future. To guarantee a well-rounded education for all Michigan students, I will support the nonpartisan, evidence-based roadmap of the School Finance Research Collaborative to reform school funding.

  • Clean Water
    • In Michigan Great Lakes and waterways are precious. This is especially true in the 44th District. Our beautiful lakes, the Huron River and parks draw people to our community.

  • Economics
    • Workers are the lifeblood of our economy and deserve respect, safety and fair compensation. I will support initiatives to help rebuild the middle class by ensuring workers with full-time jobs earn enough to raise their families.

  • Families
    • Society is built on the health and safety of our families. The current healthcare system is broken, and insurance companies are not helping solve the problem. I will work to make healthcare accessible and affordable to every Michigander so that our children, seniors, and family members with pre-existing conditions are protected.
